CSAH 42

Introduction

Beltrami County is planning to reconstruct CSAH 42 (Lakewood Drive NW) from CSAH 15 (Irvine Ave NW) to CSAH 21 (Bemidji Ave N) in 2028.  This project will address safety, mobility, and drainage challenges for a portion of CSAH 42.

This roadway provides access to residential developments, commercial businesses, and recreation destinations.  The project will incorporate specific improvements to protect non-motorized travelers from safety risks, improve mobility for all users, and more efficiently handle stormwater runoff.

Existing Transportation Challenges

Lakewood Dr NW is currently a two-lane road with an AADT of 935 vehicles.  This segment of Lakewood Dr NW exhibits widespread cracking and reveling that diminishes ride quality, efficiency, and safety.  In addition to the poor pavement condition, the corridor has issues with stormwater management and with drainage.

Proposed Improvements

This project will modernize aging infrastructure, improve safety, mobility, and drainage along the corridor.

• New aggregate base and bituminous pavement improving ride
• Added multi-use pathway for access along the route
• Added curb and gutter and stormwater treatment structure
• Improvements to steep alignment at easterly end of route
